Does the cost of the class cover the State application fee?

Accepted Answer

No. The class cost of $200 does not cover the State application fee. The State will charge $150 for the CCL application (plus a $3 processing fee) when you apply for your license.

The class fee includes: range time, targets, eye protection, ear protection, handouts, holsters (if needed).

I don't have a FOID, can I still take the CCL Class?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can take the CCL class even if you do not have a FOID card. When you apply for the CCL you will apply for your FOID at the same time.

My CCL expired, do I take the full 16 hour class or the renewal class?

Accepted Answer

If your Illinois Concealed Carry License has expired, you will need to take the CCL Renewal class. You do not have to take the full 16 hour class again.

Question 4

Do I have to use the provided eye protection, ear protection, and holsters or can I bring my own?

Accepted Answer

You can absolutely bring your own eye/ear protection and/or holster! I encourage it! The provided equipment is available for any student that does not already have their own or if they forget it at home.

Can I use a red dot during the shooting qualification?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can use a red dot or iron sights for the shooting qualification.

Can I use reloaded ammunition during the shooting qualification?

Accepted Answer

No, I do not allow the use of reloaded ammunition during in any of my classes.

Class time and range time should be spent working on students' skills. It would be a disservice to have to spend time diagnosing an ammunition issue when we could spend that time practicing. The quality control that factory ammo goes through is much higher than what reloaded ammo goes through.
Improperly made ammunition adds a level of risk that can be mitigated by using good factory made ammo.

Question 7

I have military experience - do you accept the 8 hour waiver?

Accepted Answer

While the State does allow for military experience to replace some of the required time, I do not accept waivers for my class.

The reason for this is when I sign a CCL certificate I am promising that - should the worst happen - I will stand up for you in court and swear that you learned everything associated with my curriculum number.

Every experience in the military is different and so it can be difficult to gauge which part of the class each individual is already well versed in.
